Product Overview
Barium carbonate (chemical formula BaCO₃, molecular weight 197.35) is a hexagonal fine crystal or white powder with a density of 4.43 g/cm³ and melting point of 1740°C (at 8820 kPa). It decomposes at 1450°C, emitting carbon dioxide. Slightly soluble in water containing carbon dioxide, it forms complexes in ammonium chloride or ammonium nitrate solutions and dissolves in hydrochloric/nitric acids while releasing CO₂. This toxic compound is widely used in electronics, instrumentation, metallurgy, fireworks, signal bombs, ceramic coatings, and optical glass production.
